아타나시우스 신조(AD 373년)
AD 500년대에 작성된 문건으로 위조된 문서로 판명됨(A. D.420-450)
삼위일체 교리를 잘 정리한 신조가 아타나시우스 신조인데 개신교도 여기에 기초를 두고 있다.
이 신조는 3세기 이후 알렉산드리아 주교인 성(聖) 아타나시우스의 것으로 알려져 그의 이름을 붙여 불러 왔으나, 최근의 연구로 푸아티에의 힐라리우스의 대주교 성 카에사리우스의 것이라는 주장이 대두되었다. 그 저작연대는 분명하지 않으나 5세기경까지 갈리아 남부지방에서 성립된 것으로 추정되고 있다. 그러나 개신교에서 이 교리를 가져와 사용하고 있는데 원문 번역에 있어서 "카톨릭 신앙"이라는 문구는 모두 삭제하고 '이 신앙'으로 교체 했다. 카톨릭 교리라는 것을 인정하기 싫어서일 것이다. 그런데 원문에는 구원을 얻으려면 카톨릭 신앙을 믿어야 한다고 분명하게 명시되어 있다는 것이다. 그럼 우리가 구원을 얻으려면 이 이교도인 마귀의 신앙을 믿어야 하는가?
1) Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic Faith.
누구든지 구원을 받고자 하는 사람은 모든 것 이전에 먼저 이(카톨릭이 삭제됨)신앙을 소유해야 한다.
2) Which Faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.
누구든지 이 신앙을, 완전하고 순결하게 지키지 않으면, 틀림없이 영원한 멸망을 받을 것이다.
3) And the Catholic Faithis this: That we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity,
이 (카톨릭이 삭제됨) 신앙이란 다음의 것들이다. 삼위자체가 일체이시고, 일체자체가 삼위이신, 유일하신 하나님을 믿는 것입니다.
4) neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Substance.
이 삼위는 혼합한 것도 아니요, 그 본질을 나눈 것도 아니다.
5) For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son,and another of the Holy Ghost.
왜냐하면 아버지의 한 인격과 아들의 다른 인격, 또한 성령의 또 다른 인격이 계시기 때문이다.
6) But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one, the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal.
그러나 성부와 성자와 성령의 신격은 모두가 다 하나요 그 영광도 동일하며 그 위엄도 함께 영원한 것이다.
7)Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost.
성부와 성자와 성령은 그 자체로 존재한다.
8) The Father uncreate, the Son uncreate, and the Holy Ghost uncreate.
성부께서 창조함 받지 않으신 것 같이, 성자도 창조함 받지 않으셨으며, 성령도 창조함 받지 않았다.
9) The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Ghost incomprehensible.
성부께서 다 이해할 수 없는 분이신 것 같이, 성자도 다 이해할 수 없는 분이시고, 성령도 다 이해할 수 없는 분이십니다.
10) The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Ghost eternal.
성부께서 영원하신 것같이, 성자도 영원하시며, 성령도 영원하십니다.
11) And yet they are not three eternals, but one eternal.
그럼에도 불구하고 그들은 세 영원한 분들이 아니시며, 한 영원한 분이십니다.
12) As also there are not three incomprehensibles, nor three uncreated, but one uncreated, and one incomprehensible.
창조되지도 않았고 우리의 이해를 초월한 세 하나님이 있는 것이 아니라, 창조되지도 않고 인간의 이해를 초월한 단 한 하나님만이 계실 뿐이다.
13) So likewise the Father is Almighty, the Son Almighty, and the Holy Ghost Almighty.
성부께서 전능하시듯이 성자와 성령도 전능하시다.
14) And yet they are not three Almighties, but one Almighty.
그러나 세 하나님의 전능자가 계신 것이 아니요, 오직 한 하나님의 전능자가 있을 뿐이다.
15)So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God.
성부가 하나님이시듯이 성자도 성령도 하나님이시다.
16)And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.
그럼에도 세 하나님이 계신 것이 아니라 한 하나님만이 계실 뿐이다.
17)So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Ghost Lord.
성부께서 주님이시듯이 성자도 성령도 주님이시다.
18) And yet not three Lords, but one Lord.
그럼에도 주님이 세 주가 아니라 한 주이실 뿐이다.
19) For like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be both God and Lord,
우리는 이 각각의 삼위(三位)께서 그 스스로 하나님이시오, 주님이시라는 사실을 기독교의 진리로 받는 바이다.
20) so we are forbidden by the Catholic Religion, to say, there be three Gods, or three Lords.
따라서 세 하나님이 계시며 세 분 주님이 계시다는 말은 (카톨릭 종교가 삭제됨) 참 기독교인으로서 금한다.
21) The Father is made of none, neither created, nor begotten.
성부는 그 무엇에서 만들어지지 않으셨으니, 곧 창조함 받지도 않으시고, 나지도 않으셨다.
22) The Son is of the Father alone, not made, nor created, but begotten.
성자는 성부에게서만 나시며, 지음을 받았거나, 창조되신 것이 아닙니다.
23) The Holy Ghost is of the Father [and of the Son], neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.
성령은 성부와 성자에게서 보내지셨으나 지음을 받았거나 창조되었거나 발생된 분이 아니시고, 나오신 것입니다.
24) So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Ghost, not three Holy Ghosts.
따라서 세 분 성부가 아닌 한 성부, 세 분 성자가 아닌 한 분 성자, 세 분 성령이 아닌 한 성령만이 계실 뿐이다.
25) And in this Trinity none is afore, or after other; none is greater, or l ess than another;
이 삼위에 있어서 그 어느 한 위가 다른 한 위의에 앞서거나 뒤에 계신 것이 아니며, 어느 한 위가 다른 위보다 크거나 작을 수도 없다.
26)but the wholethree Personsare co-eternal together and coequal.
다만 삼위가 함께 영원하며 동등하다는 것이다.
27) So that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshipped.
따라서 앞서 말한 대로, 이 모든 것에서 삼위가 일체이시며, 일체가 삼위인 하나님께서 경배를 받으셔야 할 것이다.
28) He therefore that will be saved must thus think of the Trinity.
그러므로 구원을 받으려는 이는, 삼위일체에 관하여 이와 같이 믿지 않으면 안 될 것이다.
29) Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting salvation that he also believe rightly the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
동시에, 영원한 구원을 얻는 데에는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 성육에 대하여 올바로 믿어야 한다.
30) For the right Faith is, that we believe and confess, that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man.
올바른 믿음이란 하나님의 아들이신 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서는 하나님이시오 동시에 인간이라는 사실을 믿고 고백하는 것이다.
31) God, of the substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and Man, of the Substance of His Mother, born in the world;
그는 성부의 본질에서 나신 신이시며, 이 세상이 생기기 전에 나신 자요, 동시에 인간으로서는 그 어머니의 본질로부터 이 세상에서 나신 분이시다.
32) Perfect God and perfect Man, of a reasonable soul in human flesh subsisting;
완전한 하나님이시오 또한 완전한 인간으로서 이성 있는 영과, 인간의 육신으로서 생존하신다.
33) Equal to the Father, as touching His Godhead; and inferior to the Father, as touching His Manhood.
신성으로서는 성부와 동등되나 그의 인성으로서는 성부보다 낮으신 분이시다.
34) Who, although He be God and Man, yet He is not two, but one Christ;
비록 그는 하나님이시며 인간이 되시긴 하나 둘이 아니요, 한 분 그리스도이실 뿐이다.
35) One, not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh, but by taking of the Manhood into God;
하나 됨에 있어서는 그의 신성이 육신으로 전환된 것이 아니라 인간의 몸을 취한 하나님이 되시는 분이시다.
36) One altogether; not by confusion of Substance, but by unity of Person.
온전히 하나인데, 그 본질이 혼합된 분이 아니라 품격의 통일성으로 하나되신 분이시다.
37) For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ.
한 인간이 영혼과 육신을 가졌듯이, 한 그리스도께서는 하나님이시오 동시에 인간이 되신다.
38) Who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead.
그분은 우리를 위해 고난 받으시고 음부에 내려가셨다가 삼일만에 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 사셨다.
39) He ascended into heaven, He sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty,
그는 하늘에 오르사 전능하신 하나님, 곧 성부의 오른편에 앉아 계시며
40) from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
거기로서 산 자와 죽은 자를 심판하러 오실 것이다.
41) At whose coming all men shall rise with their bodies,
그가 오실 때에 모든 사람들은 육체로 부활할 것이며,
42) and shall give account for their own works.
자신들의 행위에 따라 판단을 받을 것이다.
43) And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil into everlasting fire.
그리고 선한 일을 행한 자는 영생으로 나가고 악을 행한 자는 영원한 불에 들어갈 것이다.
44) This is the Catholic Faith, which except a man believe faithfully, he cannot be saved. Amen
이것이 (카톨릭이 삭제됨) 교회의 참 신앙이며, 이를 신실하게 믿지 않는 자는 구원을 얻지 못하는 것이다. 아멘
