good afternoon brothers and sisters we have such a special treat for you today for all of our Facebook and YouTube friends out there who may not have had the opportunity to travel all the way to the Holy Land today saeho and i would like to bless each of you with a very special tour of the garden tomb here in jerusalem our tour guide for this video is a very anointed man of God named Caesar who's been here in Jerusalem for many years if you ever get the chance to meet brother C's or you may hear many stories of how the Lord is using this place by leading others to a lasting relationship with the Son of God Jesus Christ brother Caesar lives here in Jerusalem with his seven month-old baby and his wife and he's been working here at the garden tomb for several years in a leadership role and one of the things I want to briefly share with you before we begin the tour is the specialness of this place to the Lord Jesus Christ every year thousands of tourists come here many not knowing anything about the Messiah but they come here just to experience the beauty of the garden and then coming in contact with the power of the resurrection story of our Messiah I believe this year the number of tourists has almost reached a quarter of a million and that number is growing day by day all for the glory and honor of our Lord so just sit back and take a little tour with us as our friend our brother in Christ Caesar takes us through the garden tomb amen brother Caesar for giving us this opportunity to show those on YouTube and on Facebook who may not have a chance to come to Jerusalem to see one of the most specialists place on earth okay all right so then follow me this way and we're gonna go to skull hill so here we are by the place of the skull now the garden tomb is one of two traditions or one of two possible locations for the place of the crucifixion burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus the oldest tradition is found in the old city which is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a tradition that was established by the mother of Emperor Constantine Helena and over the centuries for over 1,700 years and even to this day that place is identified as the traditional site now recent centuries at the beginning of the 19th century some evangelical explorers in theologians began to search for other alternatives for the place Jesus not being very convinced with a location of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for different reasons and in 1842 a German theologian by the name of Otto Thanos wrote about this place as the place of the skull based on the resemblance of a skull on the side of the hill over here we have a picture that was taken of this place in 1901 this is a picture that was taken during the time when the Ottomans were still in control of this Lane and in this picture you can see what people saw when they came to this place now it is in this particular section over here where you can see the resemblance of a skull you can see here the eye sockets in the center you can see part of the decaying nose in the lower section today is underground now what you see here in the picture is where you see back there today now the nose bridge that is connected here in the picture is no longer connected there because that fell apart about two years ago during the snowstorm in Jerusalem now the reason why the resemblance of a skull became an attraction for people is simply because we see in the Gospel of Mark chapter 15 in verse 22 that they brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha which is translated as the place of the skull in the name Golgotha or Golgotha comes originally from the Aramaic language and a simply means skull now in English people use the word Calvary and the word Calvary is a Latin name so whenever we talk about Calvary Golgotha or the place of the skull we're actually talking about the same place but in different languages now the second reason that attracted people to this place had to do with the location of their place the Bible tells us in the Gospel of John chapter 19 that Jesus was crucified outside the city we also see in the book of Hebrews chapter 13 in verse 12 the author tells us that Jesus in order to sanctify the people with his own blood he suffered outside the city gate in the location of this place fits within that world right now for you to understand this I would like to explain to you a map that I have of the Old City of Jerusalem of today and where we can also see the structure of the city from the time of Jesus now for you to be oriented this is our location right now we are located just outside the northern wall of the old city of Jerusalem of today okay it's important to clarify that the old city that we see back there does not reflect the city from the time of Jesus anymore the city from the time of Jesus was completely wiped out in the second century in the year 135 when the emperor hadrian after the famous revolt of Bar Kokhba he decided to destroy the city of Jerusalem and on top of the city he built another city but with a different structure with a structure of a Roman camp and at the time he changed the name of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina so from the second century on we don't have the city from the time of Jesus anymore now for you to understand the structure of the city of today the lines that you see in in grey that will be the structure of the city of today okay so all of this is the structure of the walls of the city of today that were built by the Ottomans in the sixteenth century during the time of the Soudan Suleiman the Magnificent now the city from the time of Jesus is what you see in dark brown okay now the lines in dark brown will be an approximation of the structure of the walls of the city from the time of King Herod the Great okay during the time of King Herod the gray there were two wars this is the first wall of the city on the southern side and this is the second wall that was built during the time of King here's a great now this section that you see over here is actually a speculation because they never found the remains of this section of the wall right here and the section of the wall right here and this is one of the two theories as far as the structure of the walls on the northern side as far as the the structure of the second wall that was built during the Herodian period but in this particulars the section of the wall that we see up here which is the section that you see up there today they're all of that section that is located back there including Damascus key to the right in that section it is possible to say with 100% certainty that that is where the second wall was in the time of Jesus okay so it is possible for us to say that we are here outside the city and close to the city from the time of Jesus we see in the Gospel of John chapter 19 in verse 20 that Jesus was crucified outside the city near the city we see in the book of Hebrews chapter 13 in verse 12 the author tells us that Jesus in order to sanctify the people with his own blood he suffered outside the city gate and the location of this place fits within that form now the place was identified as the place of the skull or the possible location for Golgotha which is in Aramaic term and the place was already identified as the place of execution our pudding according to the Sephardic this place was known as the place according to Jewish law we see in the book of Deuteronomy chapter 13 through 21 that there were about 18 different types of crimes that deserved the death penalty and the way they would executors criminals according to all read in Talmudic writings in the book of mark coat and salad dream it explains that they will bring the criminal once the person was tried and found guilty and deserving the death penalty they will bring the person to a bed skyla a place of stoning a place of execution and they will print bring the person to the top of a mound and then one of the two witnesses will push the person over the cliff after the prayer the person fell they will grab a large boulder and it will drop it either on the head or on the chest of the person the idea was to kill the person instantly and and then they will grab the body and they will put the body on a tree in order to show the iniquity and to the people to the children of Israel this is why we read in the book of Deuteronomy chapter 21 that occurs is anyone that is hung on a tree now what we see in tirana me 21 is actually a prophetic picture of what Messiah was going to suffer you know in the same way that the person that received the punishment because of the the other breaking of the law and in the same way that the person suffered the consequence of that curse in the same way Jesus one day or the Messiah one day was going to bear upon himself the sins of the whole world and on himself he was going to bear the suffering the guilt and the shame and through his sacrifice he was going to pay the price for us all and at the end of the day my friend you that are watching a day on YouTube that is the purpose of this place to tell you about the reason why Jesus died on the cross because at the end of the day that is the most significant thing for us the reason why Jesus died on the cross is because the Bible tells us that that without the shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness of sin now the question is why what the Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death and even if you and I pay the price for our sins with our own death who will still suffer the consequence of it which is eternal separation from God but God in His love in His infinite love he took the initiative to send His only Son to take your place in my place you know that cross then his son Jesus the Messiah he bore upon himself your sin in my sin and through his blood he paid the price the you and I couldn't pay my friend the word for sacrifice in the Bible that we see in the image Hebrew language is the word a kobani which comes from the word Lake Karev or the verb Lake Karev to come close because only through the blood of a sacrifice in ancient times people could come close to God God always provided a means for people to come close to him and always involved the offering of this sacrifice and all of those sacrifices pointed to the ultimate sacrifice to come was the sacrifice of Messiah you know that cross he died for you that is the most significant thing before ask about this place and we will talk a little bit more about this at the second part of the tour so here we are at the other second part of the tour and we decided to stop here because I wanted to point out two archaeological elements that were discovered in this area that make the place fit within the profile that we see in the Bible in the Gospel of John chapter 19 in verse 41 John tells us that in the place where he was crucified there was a garden and in the garden a new tomb in which no one was buried before according to the description that we see in the Gospel of John the place of the crucifixion in the tomb were in a close proximity they were very close to each other now John tells us that in that property where the tomb was in the property of Joseph of Arimathea there was a garden but the word that we read in the in that verse a four garden in the original in the Greek is in direct connection to the concept of a garden that was used for agriculture to give you an example the Garden of Gethsemane the Garden of Gethsemane on the mount of olives the original guard of Gethsemane was an agricultural garden that was used to produce olive oil the name gets M&E or gochman literally means oil press now here in this property we have evidence that this place right here was used as an agricultural garden more specifically a same vineyard about 2,000 years ago in 1877 when archaeologists began the excavations in this property in this area over here they uncovered in this place in ancient cistern now the cistern that we have here is one of the largest on the northern side of Jerusalem the cistern we have here has the capacity to hold 1 million liters of water that would be about two hundred and sixty four thousand gallons of water it's about 31 feet deep by 29 feet wide by 65 feet long and it was designed to collect rainwater from the now when archaeologists went inside the cistern they discovered that the cistern was reused or was used by the Crusaders in the 12th century they found two Crusader crosses inside and also even the type of plaster that was used that was used inside a cistern is from the time of the Crusaders now I want to show you another element that was found here that was even more significant for the place because the element we're going to see next tells us that this place right here was used as a vineyard about 2,000 years ago so follow me this way now this is the the second element that I wanted to show you before we go to see the tomb this is the winepress that was discovered here in 1924 and what its original here is what we see down here at the bottom okay the retaining wall that you'll see there in the back that has no connection whatsoever that was added much later okay so that design is not part of the original design of the winepress okay that was added much later now what you see down here at the bottom was restored by the garden tomb Association in partnership with the Antiquities Authority of Jerusalem now the way they would have used it in ancient times inside at the bottom they will put a layer of straw now on top of the straw they will put all the grapes and with their bare feet as people were holding onto ropes that were attached to a tent or a canopy that will press the grapes now the function of this straw apart from serving as a filter it also served as a cushion it was a way of absorbing the pressure so that it wouldn't crush the seats because if they crushed the seats what would happen to the wine they the wine will become bitter okay so the juice will run through the straw into that channel that you see there in the middle and the juice will run into this collection VAT that you see over here and then from here you'll proceed to collect the juice to later on produced to the wine now this was a significant finding for the place because it tells us that this place right here was used as a vineyard about 2,000 years ago by the tune and this is the most important part of our tour and this is the most important part of our story and it is the most important part of history for us believers in Jesus Christ the physical resurrection of Jesus is a fundamental element for our hope in our faith the Apostle Paul says in 1st Corinthians 15 that if there is no resurrection of the dead then Christ is not risen and if Christ is not risen then our preaching is empty and your faith is void and if Christ is not risen from the dead Paul says we're still in our sins in other words who will be wait wasting our time in this place if Christ if Christ did not rise from the dead but then in verse 20 of that chapter Paul says but Christ is risen from the dead and he is the first fruit of those who have fallen asleep now this tomb that we have here was discovered in 1867 now this is a Jewish tomb that belonged to a wealthy family and we can tell this by the structure of the tomb by the content that was discovered in the property and the location of the property in ancient times now when they found the tomb in 1867 and when they begin the excavations here in front of the tomb they uncovered in this place the remains of an infrastructure that was built by the Crusaders in the 12th century and they also found evidence that the place would have been used as a place of worship by the Byzantine Christians and this remains as a mystery for many people why a group of Byzantine Christians worshiped in this place why they built a dough most iglesias or hate church in this place that we do not know because there is nothing written about the reason why they chose the place but we do see that it was a significant place of worship in the Byzantine period but today we do not have an infrastructure here in front of the tomb anymore because all of that was destroyed in later centuries but we still have in this place the tomb now this tomb as I mentioned before belonged to a wealthy family and this tomb is divided into two chambers now this is a drawing that was done by a local archeologist by the name of Gabi barkay in 1986 and in this drawing you can see what the interior of the tomb would have looked like in ancient times now when you go inside the tomb you will go into the first chamber that was known as the preparation room now here they will prepare the body for burial after preparing the body for burial the family here would have the morning ritual okay and after the morning ritual they would transfer and they would store the body in the burial chamber where you can see one two three loculi three burial places this was a family tomb this was an ancestral seminole II after storing the body for up for a year or so the family members will return to the tomb and they will collect the bones and they will put the bones in stone boxes similar to the ones that you you see behind me that you see those those are a actuary's or replicas of ossuaries and they will store the bone the bones of the family members in boxes like the ones that you see over here but of course in the case of Jesus on the third day he was risen from the dead he died on the cross for our sins paying the price that we couldn't pay he was buried but on the third day he was risen from the dead and Friends he is alive and well today to give new life to those who put their trust in the perfect sacrifice but Jesus Christ performed by the cross of Calvary and to wrap up the explanation I would like to show you a symbol that was found here inside the tomb painted on the wall painted in the burial chamber when you go inside you will see in the burial chamber in the back you will see this painting now the painting that you will see in there was redone in recent years okay but the original one was very faded but this is what the painting looked like originally it is a byzantine era cross now above the cross you can see the greek letters Yatta Sigma which are the first in the last Greek letters for the name yes OU's or Jesus on the other side you can see the Sigma which are the first in the last four Christos for Christ and at the bottom you can see Alpha and Omega which is one of the titles for our Lord Jesus jesus said in Revelation 1:8 that he is the Alpha and the Omega the first in the last and the one who was who is and who is to come and friends I believe he is coming back so now the question is are you ready can you say for sure that you know Jesus as your Savior today at the end of the day my friend that is the most critical thing you and I need to know and understand today Jesus died on the cross because there was no other way for our sins to be forgiven it is only through the blood of Jesus the Messiah that you can have the forgiveness of your sins and you can have a personal relationship with God today jesus said in John 14:6 that he is the way the truth and life and no one comes to the Father except through him do you know Jesus if you haven't made a decision to accept Jesus as your Savior I want to invite you to do it now the Bible says that today is the acceptable day today is the day of salvation put your trust in Christ today would you love me to pray okay let's go so for those who want to commit their lives to Christ with all of your heart say this prayer the prayer itself will not give you salvation is the sincerity in the honesty of your heart first of all you need to understand that you you and I are sinners and that we are separated from the glory of God there's nothing you and I can do to earn the favor and the forgiveness of our sins before God the Bible says that our good deeds are like filthy rags before God because not because of the nature of the ADI of the actions but because of the nature of our hearts and the nature of who God is God is a holy God so naturally were separated from God you need to understand also that is only through the sacrifice of Jesus that we can have the forgiveness of our sins so I'm going to pray and if you want to commit your life to Christ today then feel free to do so right now just say it like this god I recognize that I am a sinner and that I am separated from you and I recognize that there's nothing that I can do to earn the forgiveness of my own sins now there's nothing I can do to have a personal relationship with you and I recognize that you you provided a means for me to come close to you and it was by the the sacrifice of your only Son Jesus the Messiah who died on the cross for my sins you know that cross he bore upon himself my guilt my shame you know and that cross through his blood he paid the price that I could have been and I recognize that he is the only way he is the only truth he's the only life so I want to accept Jesus Christ as my savior today cleanse me cleanse me from all my sins today in come and dwell into my heart into my life through your Holy Spirit today I want to I want to be your son I want to be your daughter I want you to be my Savior I commit my life to Christ today in Jesus name now if you commit your life to Christ today the Bible gives you the promise that those who trusted in Jesus those who believed on his name those who accepted him God gave him the right to become children of God you see this in John chapter one in verse 12 if you commit your life to Christ he gives you the power the authority to become a child of God in through the presence of your hope the whole the Holy Spirit in your life you can come to him and you can communicate with him through prayer you can also communicate with him and he can communicate with you through his word and God wants to use your life for his glory God wants to use your life to express his love to spread his message his gospel now if you made a decision for Christ today I want to encourage you to connect with a body of believers a place where you can grow in your faith okay this is a very crucial part of your walk with Christ okay and the walk started now the walk started okay may God bless you and keep growing in the decision and in the knowledge of the Lord who you I was.
